Crafting Heritage: A Beautiful Things Showcase Extended to 10 October 2025
Due to overwhelming public demand, the Crafting Heritage: A Beautiful Things exhibition, showcasing at the IDC Gallery, has been officially extended to 10 October 2025. What was originally planned as a short-run Heritage Month closure exhibition has quickly grown beyond its expected lifespan.
The exhibition opened on 25 September 2025 in partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). Since then, it has steadily drawn a broad audience, from collectors and retailers to designers, cultural leaders and first-time craft buyers. Many of these visitors asked for additional time to attend or return with guests, prompting the extension.
This momentum reinforces the commitment between DSAC and IDC to ensure that South African craft is recognised not only for its heritage value, but for its growing contribution to the creative economy.
One guest shared:
“I came in expecting mostly traditional pieces, but I was pleasantly surprised to find so many items I could see fitting into my modern home and even my wardrobe.”
The extension is yet another sign that South African craft is not slowing down. It is gaining ground.
Many of the pieces on display are produced in limited quantities, and once sold, will not be replenished during the showcase. The extension offers a final opportunity to explore the collection in person, secure standout pieces and engage directly with the makers behind them. Sales managers are on standby to assist and will gladly share the stories behind the crafts, the makers and the materials used.
New Closing Date: 10 October 2025
Venue: IDC Gallery, 19 Fredman Drive, Sandton
Beautiful Things extends its gratitude to every visitor, buyer and partner who has shown their support. As the showcase enters its final week, the public is encouraged to visit, whether to shop, be inspired or simply spend time surrounded by beautiful things. Even those who don’t usually consider themselves “craft people” have fallen in love with something here.
